Medication Reduction Services

Medication Reduction Services - Helping you to use the least amount of Pharmaceuticals!

Fewer Pharmaceuticals = Better Health in the Long Run

At Balanced Health Integrative Pharmacy, our main focus is to help you use the least amount of pharmaceuticals for the shortest period of time.  That is we want to encourage you to balance your health as naturally as possible!

We have a full fledged pharmacy dispensary just like any other pharmacy, but what makes us different is we want to see clients using less pharmaceuticals wherever and whenever appropriate.  We can fill your prescriptions but we would like to work with you and your doctor on reducing and/or eliminating any medications that are either:

  • not necessary
  • not effective
  • causing you to experience side effects
  • depleting your body of nutrients

We do realize pharmaceutical drugs when used acutely in certain situations can be extremely helpful and even save a person's life!  However, most of these chemicals when taken long term can potentially put excess stress on your body and deplete you of many vital minerals, vitamins and other nutrients which can lead to bothersome side effects.  Of course there will always be situations where the pros of using a drug long term may outweigh the risks, and in cases like this one should consider continuing to take the drug indefinitely.

If you are currently taking pharmaceuticals with limited success and/or are experiencing side effects then you may want to consult our pharmacy for other possible solutions.  We believe that many of these pharmaceutical drugs are not really designed for long term use.

We offer different levels of service for helping clients reduce their pharmaceutical usage.  The level of service necessary will be dependent on the following:

  • number of pharmaceuticals
  • the type of pharmaceuticals
  • your diagnosis
  • the overall complexity of the situation

With very simple cases, touch-base type consults work well in the pharmacy to get you started.  Whereas with more complex situations (i.e., multiple drugs/medical conditions/complex case), a private one-on-one consultation will be more suitable to help you outline an action plan right out of the blocks.  Follow up in the form of drop in/touch base visits to the pharmacy and/or private appointments would be essential for achieving a positive health outcome in all situations.

Please note that to transition off any pharmaceuticals, great care needs to be taken.  Following up with both your primary prescriber (MD/ND) and our pharmacy is of utmost importance.  This initiative has to be very client driven as what you put into it is what you will get out of it!  Depending on your personal health situation, working with some of our other allied health professionals might be something to consider.

Each time you visit our pharmacy we will aim to follow up with you with the goal of keeping you motivated and on track.  We look forward to working with you on becoming ultimately pharmaceutical free!

Please see pharmacy fee schedule for consultation fees associated with this service.
